Bean to Bar Workshop in Brussels
The only certified bean-to-bar chocolate workshop in Brussels
Discover the only authentic bean-to-bar experience led by certified artisan chocolate makers
At The Belgian Chocolate Makers, we are proud to be Brussels' only certified artisan bean-to-bar chocolate makers. Every chocolate we produce is made entirely in-house, starting with carefully selected cacao beans that we roast, crack, winnow, grind, refine, conche, temper and mould ourselves.
Because this is what we do every day, we can offer something that very few workshops can: a true immersion into the real craft of chocolate making.
During this immersive 1.5-hour hands-on experience, you will:
- Discover the incredible story of cacao and the origins of chocolate,
- Learn authentic techniques from real certified Belgian chocolate makers,
- Understand the fundamentals of bean-to-bar chocolate production,
- Create your own handmade Belgian chocolates, including elegant mendiants, creamy truffles, and a personalized chocolate bar,
- Taste exceptional single-origin chocolates and discover how terroir influences flavor,
- Open a real cacao pod and taste fresh cacao pulp and beans in their purest form,
- Share a warm and joyful moment filled with creativity, laughter, and chocolate passion.
Our workshops take place in our brand-new 170m² training centre, ideally located between the famous Grand-Place and the elegant Sablon district. Designed specifically for chocolate experiences, this modern and fully equipped space combines comfort, creativity, and immersion within the historical capital of Belgian chocolate.
What makes our workshops truly unique is the authenticity behind them. Brussels counts more than 200 chocolate shops (and a lot of tricky and fake chocolate workshops), yet only a handful of true chocolate makers still craft chocolate directly from cacao beans. By joining us, you experience the real world of artisanal chocolate making rather than a simplified tourist attraction.
Every chocolate you create during the workshop is carefully wrapped in a beautiful box so you can bring your handmade creations home and share them with family and friends. But beyond the chocolates themselves, participants leave with something even more valuable: a deeper understanding of cacao, craftsmanship, sustainability, and the incredible work behind every true chocolate bar.
Thanks to this commitment to authenticity and quality, our workshops have become one of the most popular chocolate experiences in Brussels. Every week, we welcome visitors from all over the world who come not only to make chocolate, but to connect with the people, stories, and passion behind it.
Whether you are travelling alone, visiting with family, planning a special moment with friends, or organizing a private team-building event, our workshops are designed to create unforgettable memories for everyone.
At The Belgian Chocolate Makers, chocolate is more than a sweet treat, it is a craft, a culture, and a story we are proud to share with you.
We cannot wait to welcome you into our workshop and let you experience the true spirit of Belgian chocolate making.

What bean to bar really means? The expression "bean to bar" has become fashionable, but it is often misunderstood; and sometimes misused.
Bean-to-bar is not simply showing a cacao pod, talking about cocoa, or melting ready-made chocolate.
Bean-to-bar means controlling every stage of chocolate production, beginning with raw fermented cacao beans and ending with the finished chocolate bar.
It requires specialised machinery, technical expertise, years of experience, and many hours, often several days, of work.
This is the craft we practise every day inside our chocolate factory.
Dive into the fascinating world of Belgian chocolate through an immersive artisanal workshop designed to awaken all your senses. During this warm and interactive 1.5-hour hands-on experience, you will step behind the scenes of true chocolate craftsmanship and discover the magic hidden inside every chocolate creation.
Guided by one of our certified Belgian chocolatiers, every participant actively takes part in the chocolate-making process from beginning to end. This is not a simple demonstration, it is a genuine creative experience where you will work with real chocolate, learn authentic techniques, and craft your own handmade creations with your own hands.
Throughout the workshop, you will create a personalized 100g chocolate bar (milk or dark chocolate), elegant mendiants, and delicious handmade truffles, all while learning the essential foundations of professional chocolate making. Our chocolatiers will guide you step by step through key techniques such as tempering, molding, filling, decorating, and handling chocolate like a true artisan.
But this experience goes far beyond simply making sweets.
Learn from real certified chocolate makers
Our workshop is taught by professional artisan chocolate makers who manufacture bean-to-bar chocolate as their full-time profession. You will work inside an operating chocolate factory using the same equipment and methods we use to produce our award-winning chocolate.
Every explanation comes from real production experience; not from a script. You'll understand not only how chocolate is made, but why each step matters.
At The Belgian Chocolate Makers, we are among the very few genuine bean-to-bar chocolate makers in Brussels who produce chocolate directly from raw cacao beans in our own workshop. During the session, you will therefore also discover the fascinating world of bean-to-bar chocolate making, the complete transformation journey from cacao bean to finished chocolate.
You will learn how cacao is cultivated, harvested, fermented, roasted, refined, and transformed into the chocolate we all know and love. By understanding this process, participants gain a much deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship, patience, and expertise required to create authentic artisanal chocolate.
The workshop is also a true sensory adventure.
You will taste several exceptional single-origin chocolates and discover how terroir, climate, and fermentation influence the aromas and flavor profiles of cacao from different regions of the world. Some chocolates reveal fruity and floral notes, while others offer woody, spicy, or nutty characteristics, proving that chocolate, much like wine or coffee, carries the identity of its origin.
One of the most unique moments of the experience is the opportunity to open a fresh cacao pod and discover the fruit hidden inside. You will taste the sweet white pulp surrounding the beans, known as mucilage, and even sample a fresh cacao bean in its raw state, experiencing chocolate in its purest and most natural form.
Our workshops are designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone. Whether you are a complete beginner, a curious traveler, a family looking for a memorable activity, or a passionate chocolate lover eager to deepen your knowledge, this experience combines education, creativity, and fun in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
It is also a wonderful activity to share with friends, colleagues, couples, or private groups, creating unforgettable memories together around one of Belgium’s most iconic traditions.
At the end of the workshop, you will leave not only with your beautifully wrapped handmade chocolates, but also with a deeper understanding of cacao, craftsmanship, and the incredible journey hidden behind every authentic chocolate bar.
More than a workshop, this is an invitation to discover the true soul of Belgian chocolate.
Behind Every Bar, a Star!
From roasters to storytellers, our team makes magic happen, bean to bar.

Make chocolate. Meet the chocolate makers. Live the genuine experience.
In recent months alone, we have welcomed approximately 1,000 participants every week into our workshop, making The Belgian Chocolate Makers one of the most sought-after chocolate activities in the Belgian capital. Families, couples, solo travelers, companies, schools, and chocolate enthusiasts from every continent come together in our workshop to share a memorable moment filled with creativity, discovery, and, of course, exceptional chocolate.
Unlike many tourist-oriented activities, our workshops are built around authenticity and direct interaction with real certified chocolate makers who genuinely craft chocolate from bean to bar in Brussels. This unique approach is one of the reasons why so many visitors describe the experience as one of the highlights of their stay in Belgium.
Our workshops are available through major international travel platforms such as Viator, Airbnb Experiences, TripAdvisor, and GetYourGuide. However, whenever possible, we strongly encourage our guests to book directly through our official website.
Booking directly with us offers several important advantages:
- More availability and greater flexibility for dates, schedules, and group requests,
- Direct support for our ethical cacao mission, allowing us to contribute more effectively to the farming communities we work with,
- Exclusive upgrade, cancellation, and refund conditions reserved for direct customers,
- A more personal relationship with our team, ensuring faster communication and better assistance before and after your workshop.
Many booking platforms charge significant commissions that can reach up to 30% of the ticket price. By booking directly, a much larger portion of your contribution stays within our company and helps support what truly matters to us: ethical cacao sourcing, fair partnerships with farmers, artisanal production, and the continuous improvement of our workshops.
Every reservation made directly with The Belgian Chocolate Makers therefore goes far beyond a simple activity booking. It actively supports a small independent bean-to-bar chocolate maker committed to transparency, sustainability, and preserving authentic Belgian chocolate craftsmanship.
Whether you are visiting Brussels for the first time or returning to rediscover the city through chocolate, we would be delighted to welcome you into our workshop and share with you an unforgettable experience at the very heart of Belgian chocolate culture.
Honesty really matters
Many chocolate experiences are enjoyable introductions to Belgian chocolate, but they often focus on decorating chocolates and working with pre-made couverture chocolate bought from industrials. There is nothing wrong with those activities, as long as they are presented honestly. Far too often, these experiences are marketed in a way that blurs the line between authentic bean-to-bar chocolate making and simplified chocolate activities. We believe visitors deserve complete honesty and transparency when choosing a workshop. Unfortunately, we have seen experiences advertised as "bean-to-bar workshops" that are not operated by chocolate makers at all. Instead of taking place inside a real chocolate factory, they are hosted in converted restaurants or private venues where participants are asked to "make chocolate" with a saucepan. These activities are often led by tour guides or marketing students rather than professional artisan chocolate makers. We believe this creates misleading expectations for visitors seeking an authentic bean-to-bar experience. It is disappointing to see "bean-to-bar" used as a marketing slogan for experiences that are not conducted inside working chocolate factories and are not led by professional chocolate makers. Simply heating ingredients in a saucepan is not bean-to-bar chocolate making. Visitors deserve to know the difference between an introductory chocolate activity and a genuine bean-to-bar workshop led by certified artisan chocolate makers in a real production facility.
A genuine bean-to-bar experience is fundamentally different.
It starts with fresh cacao pods and real cacao beans. Not plastic or ceramic ones.
It explores fermentation, drying, roasting, cracking, winnowing, grinding, refining, recipe formulation, conching, tempering and moulding.
Those are the processes that transform an agricultural product into fine chocolate.
That is exactly what you'll discover during our workshop.
Come and join us for a unique moment of chocolate, creativity, and shared passion in the very heart of Brussels. Whether you are visiting Belgium for the first time, travelling with friends or family, celebrating a special occasion, or simply curious to discover the secrets behind authentic Belgian chocolate, our workshop is designed to offer far more than a simple activity; it is a genuine human and sensory experience.
Inside our workshop, the smell of freshly tempered chocolate, the sound of laughter, and the joy of creating something with your own hands come together to create an atmosphere that is warm, relaxed, and unforgettable. Here, every participant becomes part of the experience, guided by passionate certified chocolate makers who love sharing their craft, their stories, and their passion for cacao.
For a few hours, you will step away from the busy streets of Brussels and enter the fascinating world of bean-to-bar chocolate making. You will discover the beauty of artisanal craftsmanship, taste exceptional chocolates, learn authentic techniques, and create your own handmade creations to proudly take home and share.
But above all, our workshops are about connection, connection with chocolate, with people, and with the traditions behind one of Belgium’s most iconic crafts. We believe that chocolate has the power to bring people together, spark curiosity, and create joyful memories that last long after the last piece has been tasted.
At The Belgian Chocolate Makers, we are proud to share not only our chocolates, but also our values: authenticity, craftsmanship, sustainability, and passion for ethical cacao.
We truly cannot wait to welcome you into our workshop, meet you in person, and share with you the genuine art and spirit of Belgian chocolate making.
Your chocolate adventure in Brussels starts here.

Experience the Real
Don’t be fooled by tourist traps around
Brussels is famous around the world for its chocolate, attracting millions of visitors every year. Yet behind many colorful shop windows and heavily advertised “chocolate experiences”, the reality is often very different from the traditional craftsmanship people imagine. Many workshops are designed primarily for tourism, using industrial chocolate that is already prepared in advance, with little connection to the true art of chocolate making.
We are different. As one of the very few genuine bean-to-bar chocolate makers in Brussels, we believe visitors deserve an authentic experience rooted in real craftsmanship, transparency, and passion for cacao. Our workshops are not staged tourist attractions, they take place within a true artisanal chocolate environment where chocolate is genuinely crafted from raw cacao beans by certified chocolate makers.
Our chocolatiers openly share their knowledge about bean sourcing, fermentation, roasting, sustainability, ethical cacao farming, and the realities of artisanal chocolate production in Belgium today. You will gain insight not only into how chocolate is made, but also into why true bean-to-bar craftsmanship matters in a world increasingly dominated by industrial production and mass tourism.
In a city filled with tourist traps, we invite you to experience something genuine: the true spirit of Belgian chocolate making, shared directly by the people who live it every day.
We don’t really keep track of ratings… unless someone points them out to us.
Support farmers, not multinational booking platforms.
However, what many visitors do not realize is that these large international companies often retain commissions that can reach 30% of the ticket price or even more. This means that a significant portion of what participants pay does not support the local artisans, the workshop team, or the cacao farming communities behind the experience; it goes instead to multinational booking corporations.
This is one of the main reasons why we always encourage our guests to book directly through our official website whenever possible.
By booking directly with The Belgian Chocolate Makers, you help us invest more into what truly matters:
- Supporting ethical cacao farming communities and fairer partnerships with producers,
- Continuing to craft chocolate directly from bean to bar in Brussels,
- Improving the quality of our workshops and educational experiences,
- Preserving authentic Belgian chocolate craftsmanship in a world increasingly dominated by industrial tourism.
Direct bookings also allow us to offer more flexibility, better customer support, and exclusive conditions that are often impossible to provide through third-party platforms.
That being said, there is one thing we genuinely appreciate about these travel platforms: they allow visitors from all around the world to openly share their experience and rate their time with us.
And apparently... we are doing quite well!
Over the years, thousands of participants have taken the time to leave incredibly positive reviews about our workshops, our team, and the authenticity of the experience we provide. These ratings are not only a source of pride for us, they are also a wonderful confirmation that visitors truly connect with our vision of chocolate making.
Behind every review, every smile, and every recommendation lies something very important to us: the feeling that people leave our workshop having experienced something genuine, human, and memorable.
At The Belgian Chocolate Makers, we do not simply want visitors to consume chocolate. We want them to understand it, create it, share it, and leave Brussels with a deeper appreciation for the extraordinary journey hidden behind every cacao bean.
So if you choose to join one of our workshops, thank you, not only for supporting a small independent chocolate maker, but also for helping us continue building a more transparent, ethical, and authentic chocolate world.
